Permitted septic systems for rural North Idaho property, installed to the approved design from tank to drainfield, bedded and backfilled to last.

Most rural property in the North Idaho panhandle is not on city sewer, which means a septic system is how wastewater is handled, and it has to be done by the book. A septic system that was not designed and installed properly backs up, fails inspection, or contaminates ground you rely on. Get it wrong and you are digging the whole thing up.

Improvements Unlimited installs septic systems across Sagle, Sandpoint and the surrounding counties. New or replacement systems require a permit and a design based on a site evaluation, processed through Panhandle Health District, and we install to that approved design, from tank to drainfield.

This is core work for us, and it is some of the work rural property owners most want done by an experienced, licensed crew that has installed many systems on ground like theirs.

Septic work includes:
  • Complete septic systems: tank, distribution and drainfield
  • Installation to permitted, approved designs
  • Coordination with Panhandle Health District inspections
  • Septic tank and drainfield replacement
  • Proper bedding, level tank set and careful backfill
  • Site restoration and final grade
  • Sequencing with utilities and site work

Permitted, By The Book

In the panhandle, a new or replacement septic system requires a permit and a design based on soil and site evaluation, handled through Panhandle Health District. The design specifies the tank, the drainfield type and size, and how the system has to be built for your particular soil and site conditions.

We install to that approved design and work with the required inspections. As an Idaho Registered Contractor, we do it the legitimate way, so your system passes, functions, and protects your property for the long haul.

Tank To Drainfield

A complete install means excavating and setting the septic tank level and solid, building the distribution, and constructing the drainfield to the specified size, depth and layout. Proper bedding, a level tank set, careful trenching of the field, and correct backfill are what separate a system that runs quietly for decades from one that gives trouble in a few years.

We handle the earthwork side of the whole process, from tank hole to final grade, coordinating with your designer and the county's required inspections so the system goes in right.

Repairs & Replacements

Older properties sometimes come with a failing tank or drainfield at the end of its life. We dig up and replace failed components, install replacement systems to a new approved design, and restore the grade when we are done, protecting the surrounding utilities and landscaping as we work.

Because we also handle utilities, foundations and site work, a septic install fits naturally into a larger project. On a new build we sequence it with the rest of the site work so everything goes in the right order.

Questions About Septic Systems

Do I need a permit for a septic system?

Yes. A new or replacement septic system in the panhandle requires a permit and a design based on a site and soil evaluation, handled through Panhandle Health District. We install to that approved design and work with the required inspections, and we are glad to point you toward the resources to get the process started.

Can you replace a failing septic system?

Yes. Replacing a failed tank or drainfield is common work. We excavate the old components, install the new system to the approved design, and restore the grade when we are done.

Do you handle the whole install?

We handle the earthwork side start to finish, from the tank hole to final grade, coordinating with your septic designer and the county inspections so the system goes in right and passes.
